“It was a tough call,” said Waddell about his decision, but added that “one cannot help but be impressed with the breadth of Mr. Walker’s experience and ability.”
“Although I had heard very positive things about Mr. Walker’s abilities, I had not previously known the depth of his experience,” said Del. Linda Rollins, R-32nd District.
The 20th District, which includes Fauquier, Loudoun and Rappahannock counties, was granted the new judgeship through legislation introduced last year by Waddell and Sen. Edward M. Holland, D-31st District.
There are an estimated 20 families a day moving into Loudoun County, said Waddell. By 1988, the caseload for the Loudoun County District Judge had more than doubled that of 1987, according to Waddell.
Due to the urgent need for the new position, the General Assembly has approved a bill, with accompanying budget legislation, which moves the starting date for the new judgeship from July 1 to April 1 of this year.
Due to the dramatic increase in caseload, Walker will sit almost exclusively in Loudoun County, said Waddell. “I am confident that Mr. Walker will be confirmed by the General Assembly and will serve Loudoun, as well as the entire 20th Judicial District, with fairness, honor and distinction,” said Waddell.
