However, they have been notified that after March 1, the school system will be charged for all electronic mail sitting unread in the computer. Dr. Gangel said he initially expected to have all the electronic mail go to the computer on the School Board secretary’s desk. “But you have all seven floors (of the education department building] dumping mail into this computer,” he told the Board members. Rappahannock County wijl need four computer terminals to handle this mail, he estimated.
Money now in the budget for administration of special education or vocational education can be used to purchase terminals at a state contract price. The state will train Rappahannock's employees in handling the computers.
However, this means that in future years the cost of paper, ink, printers to produce copies of this mail and electricity to operate the computers and printers will be shifted from Richmond to Rappahannock, Dr. Gangel added.
Other considerations in arriving at next year’s budget are funding for the seven-period day, having a fulltime guidance counselor at the elementary school (this will be required next year by the state), and teaching all the high school-aged, trainable, mentally retarded students at the high school.
