churches. School Board Chairman Beverly Massie told her that her request would be forwarded to the committee which recommends the school calendar.

The board voted to delay accepting any bid for the school van because the high bid of $5,875 was less than they had expected to receive.

The board also learned that the power surge on Jan. 4 had caused damage to equipment that would cost about $1,500 to repair. The board may be reimbursed by Potomac Edison for this expense.

The board agreed to sell the old scoreboard from the high school gymnasium to another school for $500 and reviewed plans for a dechlorinator to be built on-site at the elementary school for treating sewage before it goes to the lagoon.

During the in-service part of the meeting, the board heard from Volunteer Coordinator April Heddleston about the success of the volunteers who are helping with the remedial program. Mrs. Heddleston said that the most effective remedial model is one-on-one tutoring, and that while some tutors are just getting started, others are already seeing results. “We’re pleased to have the talent of many people in the community," she said.

Dr. Gangel also told the board that the county has received reports back from the state and that both schools are fully' accredited in all areas of instruction.
