The original bill introduced by Del. Dorothy McDiarmid, D-35th District, permitted localities to raise their portion of the tax by 10 cents. Instead, the House amended the bill to keep the recordation tax at 20 cents, but return 15 cents to the localities and only five cents to the state.
In a meeting of the Northern Virginia Delegation, Sen. Clive L. DuVal II, D-32nd District, said the House, whose members face re-election this fall, does not look favorably on more local option increases.
