RICHMOND — Public bodies are required to certify what they do behind the closed doors of executive session under new legislation approved by the General Assembly this session.
The alterations in the Virginia Freedom of Information Act are the first significant changes in the act in 20 years, according to the bill’s sponsor, Del. Ralph L. “Bill” Axselle, R72nd District, who served on a yearlong study committee assigned to review the FOI legislation.
The bill also reduces the amount of time that agencies have to respond to requests for information from 24 days to 12 working days. In addition, the approved legislation
