• There will be no paid acreage diversion for feed grains this year. Thfe U.S. Department of Agriculture is boosting the acreage reduction requirement from 12.5 percent to 25 percent to reduce the cotton surplus.
• Producers are eligible to receive advance deficiency payments at the signing. Payments will amount to 20 cents a bushel for wheat, 35.6 cents a bushel for corn and 6.42 cents a pound for cotton. All advance payments will be in cash.
• A program provided for in last summer’s Disaster Assistance Act allows farmers to plant between 10 percent and 25 percent of their 1989 feed grain, wheat or cotton acreage to soybeans while protecting the base history.
