James Shaw said he lives about 1/10-mile away across Route 211 from the property being considered. “There is no money in the federal budget now for that project (fourlaning 211),’’ he said. “That is the most dangerous place on 211.” Mr. Shaw said he often hears the squeal of brakes.
And, he added, “I bought a place out in the country to be in the country. I like to sit on my porch and look out at trees and mountains — not cars parked beside a building.”
Krebser questions aesthetics
There was no one else to speak from the audience, so Planning Commission Chairman Allen Stokes asked for questions or comments from the members. Dr. Werner Krebser said he was mainly concerned about the appearance of the building. “It will be the first commercial building people will see coming from Sperryville.” He said Route 211 between Warrenton and Gainesville looks “honky-tonk. I had hoped in Rappahannock we could have something that looks better." he concluded.
“I'd be foolish not to make it look as attractive as possible," Mr. Woodard replied.
Member John Marshall Clark said he saw a significant difference between this application and the previous one and made a motion that the planners forward the application with the Woodards’ proffers to the Board of Supervisors with a recommendation for approval. After a fewmore comments the motion was passed 6-0 (Planning Commission member David Fannon was not present at the meeting).
