For many years, March brings a familiar sight to Rappahannock County — the brightly colored Mobile Sight and Hearing Screening U nit operated by the Lions Clubs of Virginia.
The unit provides free vision and hearing tests to all the children in the county’s schools, and has equipment to do glaucoma and diabetes testing as well as eye and ear tests for adults. All the testing is free.
It is equipped with a soundproof booth for hearing testing, the latest vision-testing equipment and diagnostic equipment for non-contact glaucoma testing and diabetes screening. The latter two tests are available only for adults, the Lions emphasized.
The van will be at Wakefield School in Huntly on Wednesday, March 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for students, and will be operator adults from 2-3 p.m.
On Thursday, March 9, the operation will move to Rappahannock County High School, where students will be screened from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Testing will again be available for adults from 2-3 p.m.
On Friday, March 10, students at Rappahannock County Elementary School will be screened. There will be no testing for adults on March 10.
