The January meeting was held in Culpeper United Methodist Church, Mrs. Z.R. Gutowski, Acting Regent, presiding. Mrs. Woodruff Kearns wrote, directed and performed in a musical skit titled “Remember the Ladies.”
It referred to the boredom and , nonchalant attitude of some of the ; Constitution signers’ wives in a “hot Philadelphia" during the extensive work on the U.S. Constitution. The wives questioned the necessity of their husbands’ being locked in a room writing this document while they sweltered in the heat and furthermore were not even asked to participate.
The wives portrayed were Mrs. James Madison, Mrs. John Adams, Mrs. Alexander Hamilton and Mrs. Ben Franklin. Actors were Mrs. Edgar Puryear Jr., Mrs. Dale Metzinger, Mrs. Douglas Fairfax and Mrs. Charles E, Johnson. Mrs. Kearns, along with friend, Ms. Louise McCullen, provided the musical accompaniment.
