Women slated for ladies’ timber include Dawn Dugan, Michele Rouse, Juliet Graham and Patti Cassel. The race that follows, maiden hurdle, has more than 25 entries.
But that’s not all. The Great Rappahannock Mule Race, begun last year, pits these beasts of burden against each other.
And an old favorite has a new name this year. The Rappahannock Hunt has named its hound race, unique to the Rappahannock Pointto-Point, The Jack Bruce Memorial Hound Race, named in honor of the hunt’s longtime Master of Foxhounds, who died last year.
As in Casanova, all hurdle races will be run over natural cedar.
Mr. Brown suggested that spectators arrive early to ensure a good seat, since a large crowd is expected. “People will certainly get their money’s worth as far as races are concerned,” he added.
Admission is $5, as is general parking. Take Route 211 to Sperry - ville, then take Route 522, following it two miles south of Sperryville to signs that say, RACES.
