• Japanese andromeda is a tall, compact, bushy evergreen shrub , with white, urn-shaped flowers in sprays resembling lily-of-the-valley. It blooms in late April.
• Mountain andromeda is a medium-sized, compact, slow-growing • shrub which produces white blossoms in upright, open panicles.
• Pussy willow has large, silky gray buds which add intriguing interest to early spring flower arrangements.
Small branches from many types of fruit trees can be forced in the same way as forsythia.
Cherry, plum and pear trees produce w'hite flowers. Apple and peach flowers come in an array of pink tones.
The stems of red maple and horse chestnut are interesting in late winter or early spring, when small flowers and young leaves first appear.
Gather up a few branches from a variety of these plants and you can make a very handsome arrangement long before the tulips begin to bloom.

Everyone knows that children like to play with matches, but an average of 120 people die every year in fires started by children playing with cigarette lighters. Many of the ; specialty lighters on the market even resemble toys to youngsters.
The Virginia Extension Service reminds people to always keep light- ' ers, with matches, out of reach of children. And never, never, entertain or amuse children with lighters or matches. They may be tempted to imitate the tricks with disastrous results. »
