a 4-0 deficit before Eric Dunn, in the starring role as Mr. Determination, ran off five points for a 5-4 lead. Dunn capped an 11-point performance in the first period with a driving move around four Falcon defenders at the buzzer for a 19-19 tie.
The nervous Panthers turned the ball over eight times in the first quarter compared to only two giveaways by Central. But they atoned for their generosity by collecting most of the missed shots for a big rebounding advantage.
The well-rehearsed Panther offense rolled into action in the second quarter and RCHS outscored Central 21-14. The defense shared the spotlight as every time the Falcons threatened, Rappahannock made a big play to keep the margin more than two shots away. The closest Central came was 29-24. At this juncture, Todd Brinkley was on course for a breakaway basket but Julian Groves, as Mr. Hustle, rejected the ball back to Rappahannock. At the half, Dunn had 19 points- RCHQ led 40-33; and the Panthers’ only setback was three foul* on center Anthony Porter.
