The Rappahannock Teen Club spent the weekend of Oct. 14 and IS on a canoe trip on the Rapidan River in Madison County, and the Rappahannock in King George County.
According to Agricultural Extension Agent Tommy Williams, the trip was i. first-hand learning experience of the need for soil conservation, as well as for clean water.
The Teen Club is an experimental, cooperative venture between 4H members and leaders from Rappahannock, Madison, King George and Caroline counties. If the program is successful, Mr. Williams said, the Virginia Extension Service plans to expand it statewide.
The canoe trip, along with a second day spent in Tidewater’s King George County, was the third outing of the series, following camping trips and hikes in Rappahannock and Madison counties.
After the canoe trip on the Rapidan, the group drove to Waterloo Farm on the Potomac River in King George County, where they camped for the night. On Sunday, they toured the county’s sewage treatment plant, where they learned of the problems in disposing of municipal waste.
