The Rappahannock public “school system has a project underway that will give a new dimension to the Christmas holiday.
Through a grant from the Virginia Commission of the Arts, playwright Catherine Kiley is overseeing the creation of a play, “The Ties that Bind,” based on the stories of grandparents and other elders important to the students of both the elementary and high school. It will be performed by student actors in Rappahannock County as well as Culpeper and Washington, D.C.
During Christmas vacation, students are encouraged to carry out oral history research by asking older family members some of the following questions: What was the first kind of work you did for money? What did you do for fun? Who was a very important person in your life and why? Can you tell me a mischevious adventure from your childhood? Or an animal story?
