Kerosene heaters can be dangerous if precautions are not taken.
Never put gasoline into one. Not only can gasoline cause an explosion, but it will bum out of control.
Only Grade-A or crystal-clear kerosene can be used safely. Cloudy, murky or yellow kerosene will create other problems, such as smoke, a dirty wick and noxious fumes.
Kerosene should be stored in a specially designated container so it will not be confused with gasoline.
Make sure the heater is placed in a safe location, and warn children to get no closer than two feet from it. Try to keep pets away, too.
