In addition to record snows, the county is also suffering under extremely low temperatures. Mr. Wingfield reported that his thermometer has risen above 33 degrees only once since Dec. 7, when he recorded a high of 53 degrees. That exception was Dec. 11, when the mercury rose to 34 degrees.
The coldest reading so far this month was on Dec. 17, when the thermometer dipped to one degree above zero. But there have been single-digit lows on four of the last six days, and even the warmer days were barely in double digits, with lows of 11 degrees above zero recorded both days.
