On the river we encountered and overcame swift rapids, low and overhanging tree branches and very swift currents. These things I encountered by accident.
My canoe tipped over after trying to avoid hitting a tree limb, and the current pulled us under into the icy cold water. Fortunately, the river was only about a foot deep in that area, so I survived.
We took water samples, which enabled us the learn the quality of , the water in the river.
That night, we set up camp on a private, riverfront property overlooking the Potomac River. We had a nice taco salad dinner by campfire and moonlight. There was even a long-awaited, accessible bathroom (Joy!).
We got up to a brisk Sunday morning, broke camp and were on our way again shortly after 8:30 a.m. We visited a sewage treatment plant and Caledon, a protected eagle habitat. I thought the eagle tour was interesting.
