Rappahannock News photo/Lou Hatter TOM VON FANGE’S ninth-grade earth-science class at RCHS capped its study of igneous rocks with a practical demonstration on volcanoes. The class built several models, which were filled with a chemical mix and then ignited. The result was a realistic simulated volcano, which, according to Von Fange, gave the students a practical demonstration of the (power of nature and the geological process which drives the formation of igneous rocks.
