Incumbent Sheriff John Henry Woodward will return for a third term in office following a 1,536-to791 victory over Roger Cordani. In what was the most closely-watched election in Rappahannock, Sheriff Woodward won five of six precincts and collected 66 percent of the votes tallied.
Also, confusion at two precincts early Tuesday caused a handful of county voters to cast ballots in the wrong state senate race.
Mr. Cordani won Chester Gap by one vote and came within 31 votes of taking his home precinct, Amissville, but Sheriff Woodward won decisively in the other four precincts, even winning Scrabble by a 251-vote margin out of 463 cast there.
“I’m very happy, and I’m grateful to all the people of Rappahannock who helped elect me again,” said Sheriff Woodward after the final results were in Tuesday night. He said the results meant he should “keep providing the services I’ve been providing and improve where I can.”
