Of course, it’s not always easy. We are sacrificing a second full-time income. (In some Rappahannock homeschooling families, Mom teaches and mothers all day, then goes to part-time work at night. These women deserve all of our respect.) Because of the stresses that are inherent in managing a home, planning lessons, and choosing curricula, a group has formed in the county. Home Educators’ Association of Rappahannock, or H.E.A.R., provides support, friendships, and ideas for field trips each month. It is through this group that Spanish lessons and music seminars have been established this year.
We do not feel that we have cut ties with RCES. We participate in fund-raising efforts, special events, the book fair, and last spring, the wonderful science fair. For my chil
