With one political season winding down, the next is getting under way.
As President George Bush was gearing up for his reelection campaign, former Sen. Eugene McCarthy announced that he would join the growing field of candidates for the Democratic Party nomination.
Mr. McCarthy first ran for the presidency in 1968 when, in opposition to the Vietnam War, he challenged then-President Lyndon Johnson for the Democratic Party’s nomination.
