State Del. George Allen easily beat Democrat Kay Slaughter Tuesday night for the 7th District Congressional Seat being vacated by retiring incumbent D. French Slaughter Jr.
Del. Allen, who currently represents Albemarle County in the House of Delegates, collected 63 percent of the vote to Ms. Slaughter’s 34 percent after 70 percent of precincts had reported late Tuesday night.
John Torrice Jr., an independent candidate on the ballot, received about three percent of the vote. Complete results weren’t available at press time.
Ms. Slaughter won the city of Charlottesville, where she sits on the city council, but not much else as Del. Allen cruised to victory.
