The plan also involves cutting off through passage on Route 1002. A new bridge over the Thornton River would be built for the bypass, and the current bridge on Route 1002 would be taken out. The two sections of Route 1002 would end with cul-de-sacs.
“I think 1 oppose closing 1002,” Mr. Estes said. “It would split Sperryville into two towns.”
Supervisor Chairman Hubert Gilkey noted that if the bypass is truly a limited access road it would also cut the road that leads to the Sperryville sewage treatment plant.
