Gov. Wilder has issued an order banning all outdoor fires in the entire state of Virginia, and there are reports that he may postpone hunting season at the end of the week unless it rains or snows.
According to forest technician Ed Kowalski of the Madison office of the Department of Forestry, is it a misdemeanor to bum outdoors within 300 feet of a field containing grass or within 300 feet of woodland or brushland.
He said the ban was put in place out of concern for what has happened in West Virginia, where fires have destroyed thousands of acres in recent weeks.
The ban remains in effect until specifically lifted by the governor.
