Everyone on the planet is getting “down to earth” about ecology, saving endangered species and recycling.
Now, there’s a store in Sperry - ville that offers a little education, a little help and a little in return for those concerned.
Down To Earth, replacing Touch The Earth, has new owners, new stock and new ideas.
“We are trying to show a friendly side of change,” said co-owner Connie Crossgrove of Madison.
The tall-dark haired woman has joined forces with ex-Rappahannock citizens Bruce Wetteroth-past proprietor of the Earth Shop in Washington—with this idea.
The shop, once a thrift store, located next to the old hotel on Main Street, is one room lined, stacked, hung, arranged and packed with ecological and conservationally inspired items.
There is natural bath soap or cologne. There are toilet paper and paper towels made from recycled paper, as well as cards, note paper and other items.
There is literature from various groups on endangered species, recycling, ecology. There are books on herbs, fossils or rocks-for.the beginner or the professional.
There are T-shirts and buttons and bead necklaces and cloth bracelets.
