The supervisors asked Mr. Estes to bring back next month his recommendation on the proposed plan. If the supervisors endorse the plan they will pass a resolution in support and send a representative to the primary road hearing in Culpeper this spring to ask that it be included in the state’s plans for improvements to the primary roads. It would be several years before the road could be built, since it would probably be put at the end of a long list of road improvements in the state. Last year Mr. Estes spoke at that hearing in favor of the state doing preliminary design work on a plan for a bypass for U.S. 522 and Route 231.
With all such traffic currently coming through the main intersection in Sperryville, traffic at the intersection in front of the Comer Store can be very heavy. Tractor trailors coming north on U.S. 522 have a problem negotiating the right turn and need the entire intersection to complete the turn. Mr. Estes said that he had a new “high water mark” on the concrete barrier beside his house. A truck left black tire marks only a few inches from the top of the wall over the past weekend.
