thy’s program is covered in a book he expects to publish early next year. The point of the book, he said, is that the United States has become “a colony to the world.
“We have lost control of our foreign and military policy,” Mr..McCarthy said. “We had a chance with Gorbachev to get back into history, but George (Bush) has taken us out again. We have lost control of our economy. We export raw materials and import manufactured goods. We have lost control of our borders to drugs and immigrants, and we have lost control of our culture. * “These deficiencies are the marks of classical colonialism,” he continued. “We have even allowed Castro to send us his criminals the way the British did in Georgia and Australia during colonial times.”
As an example of lack of control over the military, Mr. McCarthy pointed out that major contractors for the B-l bomber are located in 30 states.
“That means that there are 60 senators under economic pressure to support it,” he said. “That is by design.”
He said that the United States was justified in going into Saudi Arabia to protect Saudi oil fields. He is concerned, however, that Desert Storm showed the U nited States can deploy 500,000 men “before there is any effective way to pass judgment on whether the deployment is proper. We need to be sure that the fact we can do something doesn’t become justification for doing it,” he said.
Mr. McCarthy favors adding health insurance for catastrophic illnesses and long term health care tc Medicare and Medicaid. He said on the environment and energy “most of the things that need to be done have been identified.”
