State Sen. Kevin G. Miller, RHarrisonburg, swept the 26th District race Tuesday by a two-to-one margin over Democrat challenger Margaret Haynes, taking 64 percent of the vote.
Also, longterm incumbent Sen. Thomas Michie was upset by Republican challenger Ed Robb in the 25th Senate district. Mr. Robb campaigned against Sen. Michie’s voting record.
“I’d like to think that people looked at the qualifications of the candidates and made the right choice,” said Sen. Miller, 61, after the election.
“In 1983 and 1987, I won by 58 percent of the vote, and I was hoping I would do as well this time,” said Sen. Miller, who has served in the Virginia State Senate since 1983 and in the House of Delegates from 1979 to 1983.
