Highway construction contracts totaling $4.2 million for projects in the Culpeper district were awarded by the Commonwealth Transportation Board at its April meeting in Richmond.
Topping the list was a $3.3-million contract awarded to Haymes Brothers Inc., of Chatham, to construct the final four-lane section of U.S. 211-522 between Washington and Sperryville.
The 270-day contract includes constructing a new bridge across the Covington River and improving about two miles of road.
In Culpeper County, the U.S. 522 bridge across the Hazel River near Boston will be repaired and widen by Wilkins Construction Co. Inc., of Amherst. The work will be done under a 270-day, $619,000 contract.
I more x Inc., of Richmond, was awarded a $12,200 contract to install a traffic signal on U.S. 29 at its intersection with Route F973 just north of the Warrenton bypass in Fauquier County. This is the third signal light installed on U.S. 29 between the bypass and « Route 605 in the past three years.
The new light will be synchronized with the traffic signals at Nordix Road (Route
85.6%
