Flea market
permit okayed
The Board of Zoning Appeals voted last Wednesday to renew the special use permit for James W. Russell to operate a flea market at Horseshoe Hills west of Sperry ville.
Mr. Russell first got a special use permit for the flea market for three years in 1986. It was renewed for another three years in 1989.
The BZA agreed to another three-year extension and decided to allow County Administrator John McCarthy to extend it again unless he feels the BZA needs to review it.
The use permit is quite restrictive. The flea market can be held only during the months of September and October and only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The tables must be taken down between flea markets.
Wakefield District representative Jennifer Matthews asked about ■> a permit for the flea market at That Sperryville Emporium. Mr. McCarthy said the activity pre-dated the zoning ordinance and was therefore “grandfathered” in.
