Also there is an increase of $8,300 for equipment for the Clerk’s Office and $4,400 for microfilming records for that office.
The budget for parks, recreation and culture is up $17,200. That includes the library. Part of that increase is not truly ^n increase. The Board of Supervisors appropriated $2,000 for youth sports and $10,000 for the library, neither of which were in the current budget.
The budget for health and welfare is actually down about $5,400. The budget for community development was increased by $8,700, most of this is for the Planning Commission to contract for one or more studies of the village areas.
At Thursday’s meeting Hampton District representative Mike Massie said he would like to cut the budget to bring the tax rate down close to the 45 cent real estate tax rate charged in Warren County.
That will not be easily accomplished when the proposed budget already includes $354,700 more in spending than income and most of the increase is due to Rappahannock’s higher LCI. *
