With most problems ironed out at the new library building and fiscal problems under control, the Library Board is ready to discuss the future.
Board member Grace Sims said one thing she learned at a conference for library trustees is that a library should not try to do everything. She said the library should concentrate on doing up to three things really well. , The board has been considering how much to be involved in the “information age” of computers. One possibility is to become a part of an information network. This would enable not only patrons in the library, but also anyone in the county with a computer and a modem, to participate in the network. The board wants to find out how much interest there is in the community for such a service.
Member Helen Platt noted that the “clientele is geared to what we are.”
Chairman William Young agreed. “We can’t drop the services that have built the library,” he said.
Librarian Nikki Lynch will prepare a survey to be used with library patrons and others in the community not now using library services.
Mrs. Lynch is also studying library usage during various hours.
