Shenandoah
hosts public
The Shenandoah National Park Research and Resource Management Symposium will be held May 68 at the Luray Inn and Conference Center.
This biennial gathering of scientists, natural and cultural resource managers, land-use planners, public administrators, conservationists, and interested citizens is held to foster communications between the National Park Service and others that share common goals and concerns.
The theme of this year’s event is “Resource Protection through Cooperative Planning."
Activities of special note include two panel discussions: one titled “The Challenge of Cooperative Land Use Planning,” and the second titled “Biodiversity, Everyone’s Business.”
The second day will feature summaries of 12 studies that have recently been completed in the park. Topics of these studies include several discussions on the effects of add precipitation on park streams and other resources, research on black bears, rattlesnakes, forest insect pests and lichens, long-term resource monitoring, and others.
