having the county pay the 5 percent of the retirement that county employees have been paying. About $19,000 of the increase in the public safety budget is for this increase in the retirement contribution for deputies and other employees of the Sheriffs Office and jail. Another $9,000 is for increased health insurance premiums for these employees.
Another $25,000 is for increased salaries for employees in the Sheriffs Office and County Jail. Most of this increase will be picked up by the state. Another $14,000 is for purchasing two cars instead of just one for the department this year.
The cost for general county government is up $20,700. A part of this is also for increased health insurance costs and the increased payment for the retirement system. Also County Administrator John McCarthy is getting a $6,300 raise and an additional $5,500 is budgeted for equipment for his office. There is a $28,500 increase in equipment for the Commissioner of Revenue’s Office.
The cost of judicial administration is up $25,400 in the proposed budget. Again a portion of that is for health insurance and retirement.
