George Williams

Marine Sgt. Major (Retired) George S. Williams, 71, of Angelo City, Philippines, formerly of Castleton, died Saturday, April 11 at Travis Air Force Base Hospital. Burial was in Los Angeles Riverside Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Williams was bom Oct. 18, 1920, son of the late Samuel and Agnes Cannon Williams. He retired from the Marine Corps after 30 years of service. He served in Guam during World War II and in Vietnam.

Surviving are his wife, Purina Perez Williams of the Philippines and one son Scott from his first marriage. Also surviving is a halfbrother, Glenn L. Williams of Alexandria.

Another half-brother, Thomas V. Williams, of Flint Hill, predeceased him.

John Merchant

John Wesley Merchant, 52, of Front Royal, died Saturday, April 25 in the Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal.

A memorial service was conducted Tuesday, April 28 at the Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home in Front Royal by the Rev. Wilbur Bell.

Mr. Merchant was bom Aug. 22, 1939, in Warren County, the son of the late Lyle and Daisy Rae Knight Merchant. He was retired from the A&P Store in Front Royal and served in the National Guard.

Surviving are his wife, Geneva E. Merchant; a daughter. Crystal I). Merchant at home; three stepdaughters, Connie Clark and Sandy Cooksey of Front Royal and Frances Williams of West Virginia; a stepson, Randy Clark of Flint Hill; a sister, Shirley Cook of Front Royal; a brother, William Merchant of Front Royal and seven step-grandchildren.
