Chewning and his production team are leading the field in the effort to bring steeplechasing to a national audience.
“Steeplechasing comes across [on camera] very well because you are dealing with all the elements of sports drama, combining the danger of head-to-head thoroughbred competition and the danger of jumping.
“This is a sophisicated shoot. There are 10 cameras, seven of them on course. There are microphones on jumps, wiring under the course and radio frequency cameras,” he explained. “We have become really innovative in these three years. Steeplechasing is a real test for television.”
In addition to the live show that will include paddock interviews, crowd shots and coverage of the Gold Cup, Continental Cup and maiden timber, there will be a few pre-taped features. A story on top women riders will include a round-table discussion with Sanna Nielson, Michele Rouse
