Deficit threat

To the Editor:

Last week, National Public Radio announced that the national deficit for this year, so far, was $195 billion. This is difly April. For every one dollar of spending cuts proposed by Congress, $22 of spending increases have been proposed so far this year.

Of this deficit, $145 billion went to service our nation’s $4 trillion (that is with a “t”) debt. One trillion equals a million-million.

Of this year’s record deficit, each of us, man, woman and child, owns a $780 share. The interest on the $4
