Five-year-olds are known for making a mess, but Virginia’s fiveyear-old Adopt-a-Highway program not only picks up after itself, it picks up after litterbugs across the entire state.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is celebrating the program’s Fifth Anniversary with the annual Great State Trash-Off on Saturday, Oct. 16. On that day, thousands of Virginians led by Adopt-a-Highway volunteers will mobilize to clean the Commonwealth.
Everybody can help the Adopt-aHighway volunteers by cleaning up area roads, parks, streams, bike trails, waterways or even their own backyards.
“By lending a hand, Virginians will clean our state not only for themselves 'and their neighbors, but also for the thousands of people who visit Virignia every day,” says Commonwealth Transportation Commissioner Ray D. Pethtel.
