last increase in the income tax was in 1972. Republican Linwood Holton was governor. The state sales tax was increased one-half cent in 1985, with the increase dedicated to road maintenance. Our roads and bridges were falling apart due to 12 years of Republican neglect. Today, every one of us can look around and see the system being repaired and improved. Governor Wilder has proposed no tax increases whatever during his term of office.
