Rappahannock Newi Staff Writer I Harold Dailey saw the explosion as his school bus rounded the bend on Route 710 heading into Marshall at 3:45 p.m. last Friday. ;> Stopping the bus, Dailey and the 50 students on Fauquier County’s Bus 155 from Northwestern and Coleman Elementary Schools witnessed the burning remains of the Piper Turbo Lance II airplane that had crashed in the road several hundred yards ahead of them.. ' According to Dailey, the plane was engulfed in flames when he arrived at the scene. He said that many of the children on the bus were frightened when they saw the accident.
' “I hurriedly turned the bus around,” Dailey said. “The children saw the fire, but they never really did see the flames up close.”
Had the bus arrived a minute and a half earlier as it neared its first stop, it may have become involved in the accident.
