This document that was born in the summer of 1787 became the very foundation of a new7 government that provided a system of checks and balances among three separate branches. This masterfully penned document became our blueprint of democracy.
And so the oldest living Constitution in the world today marks its 206 anniversary. Its words continue to allow Americans to develop their talents and abilities to the fullest and protect them from government abuse.
Perhaps George Washington stated it best in a letter to the Marquis de Lafayette when he wrote, “It appearers to me, then, little short of a miracle...” Let us celebrate this miracle that is our United States Constitution.
