On abortion Mr. Katzen said he is opposed to abortion as a means of birth control or to select the sex of a child. He said he would support laws to require a minor to get parental permission before getting an abortion, to require a 24-hour waiting period for an abortion and to require that a woman getting an abortion be offered literature on alternatives. He said he would oppose laws to restrict the right of a woman to obtain an abortion in cases or rape, incest, threat to the mother’s life, of severe fetal abnormality.
On crime, Mr. Katzen favors mandatory sentences, making prisoners work to help cover the cost of their support, and giving juries access to criminal records, including juvenile records, prior to sentencing.
