Carthy reported that both the E-911 system and cable television were falling behind schedule. In the case of E-911, he said that the C&P Telephone Company said it could not switch Rappahannock to E-911 until several other counties are switched. He said they reported they wouldn’t swith over until 90 percent of the houses are addressed and that the company said that included putting up street signs. He estimated it will be next year before the switch comes.
On cable television, Mr. McCarthy said Chester Gap already had cable and Adelphia was moving ahead with lines to Washington and Flint Hill, but was having problems getting right-of-way to extend lines to Sperryville and Amissville.
Jackson District representative Ellis Bingham said other areas shouldn’t have cable if the Amissville area didn’t. Then Stonewall Hawthorn District representative Robert Anderson agreed saying no one should get cable if it didn’t come into his district. No cable lines were planned for that district.
