Many women are instilled to place value on themselves based on their performance in a variety of roles —as mothers, wives, daughters, and employees. That value system, however, can lead to a number of problems when women begin to experience difficulties in those relationships, according to a local social worker.
Charlotte Wolfford, a licensed clinical social worker at Family Focus in Warrenton, said last week that issues such as these were the driving force behind her incentive to create groups to specialize in dealing with problems common to women.
Ms. Wolfford recently started psycho-educational and psychotherapy groups at Family Focus, a Christian counselling service, to address women’s issues.
Because there are a proportionately higher number of women in psychotherapy than there are men, and because there are few facilities designed to focus specifically on women’s issues, Ms. Wolfford and John Borgens, a Ben Venue resident and founder and director of Family Focus, decided there was a need in the
