At times Mr. Katzen seemed to be running against Mary Sue Terry, the Democratic candidate for governor, rather than incumbent Democratic Del. Jerry Wood, but he did criticize Mr. Wood both for being controlled by the power brokers in Richmond and for bragging about his ability to get funds for the district from Richmond.
Mr. Katzen attacked Ms. Terry for “running away” from the issue of the state’s obligation to federal pensioners for state income taxes they paid on their federal pensions, which the Supreme Court said were illegal. He said she had also run away from the issue of what to do about VMI.
Mr. Katzen also said Ms. Terry did not make certain as Attorney General that the names of convicted felons were put in the computers used by gun dealers for instant background checks.
