She suggested the schools develop policies for home schoolers. “We are at a crossroads,” Mrs. Wood said. “Do we want to close doors or build bridges?” she asked.
School Board Chairman Beverly Massie said the school system would look into how it could work with the home schoolers. She added that since the school system doesn’t get funds from the state for homeschooled children, it would have to charge tuition for classes that “would make the cost prohibitive.” She urged home-schooling parents to reconsider what the public schools 1 offer.
In other action the board:
•Voted to award the contract to Quarles Petroleum for diesel and gasoline for the bases, since the company is the only one that will be responsible for the underground tanks. Dr. Gangel said that this will be for one year only and that the next budget will have to include funds for “above-ground vaulted tanks.”
