That second year also saw a bit of excitement when, according to the Page News and Courier of Aug. 19, 1954, three black Angus cows “belonging to Mayor H.B. Dyche evidently didn’t like the idea of being put on exhibition at the Page Valley Fair this week. They broke the cattle racks on the truck transporting them to the grounds and took off for distant parts via Luray’s busy Main Street” The cows were later found hiding out in the back yards of local residents.
