I he most difficult part was trying to find first person, original material from the men of this regiment. I was searching for letters, diaries, documents and newspaper articles at the time that would tell the story first-hand,” he said.
He began at the Tulane University in New Orleans where he found letters, several diaries of the men and the original records of the regiment. The records told where the men were from, their occupations, biographical information and whether they were killed, wounded or captured.
