Support 4-H

Participation in 4-H farm show

down noticeably from previous years

This week and last the annual Culpeper-MadisonRappahannock

Farm Show took place at the

Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises. Results of the winning entries are still being gathered and will appear in next week’s edition along with additional pictures of participants and events.

The 4-H’ers who participated were excited about their achievements and enthusiastic about 4-H in general. But it was disturbing to see that participation was severely down from previous years. There were no poultry exhibits and no rabbit exhibits, although individuals did show rabbits in the pet cpntests. The number of participants in the homemaker’s category as well as beef, swine and sheep categories was noticeably down.

Hopefully this will not become a trend and next year will see participation increase. The 4-H program is worthwhile and deserves support. That is especially true in an agricultural community like Rappahannock.
