• The Virginia General Assembly recently passed a bill that requires more ground water monitoring for landfills that are located on wetlands or land that is “Hydrologically connected” to wetlands. Furthermore, counties will have to prove that their landfill site does not exist on such property. McCarthy noted that this could affect the county, and monitoring costs could double as a result.

• County Attorney Peter Luke updated the board on the status of the county’s boundary with Warren and Fauquier Counties. To the best of his knowledge, everyone who wants to be in Rappahannock County will be when the boundaries are re-drawn.
